Congratulations to assistant professor Ahmad Jomaa on being selected a 2023 Searle Scholar. Ahmad joins a group of 15 exceptional young faculty in biological, chemical and engineering sciences from top institutions across the US who were selected in a highly competitive process from 175 applicants, already preselected by their home institutions. The program supports high risk, high reward research with $300,000 over three years. Ahmad is the first Searle Scholar selected from the University of Virginia since the inception of the Program in 1981. Ahmad’s project is on When cancer cells go to sleep: Regulation of protein synthesis during dormancy.
