April 26, 2024 by jcn6f@virginia.edu

We welcome Lu Gan as a new Associate Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics and resident member of the Center. Lu received his graduate training in structural biology at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA and completed postdoctoral training at Cal Tech in Pasadena, CA. He has had a distinguished faculty career at the National University of Singapore since 2011 where he trained numerous undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral trainees. We also welcome Lu Gan’s the lab members who will transfer with him to UVA.

Lu is an expert in the developing field of cryo electron tomography and correlative cryogenic light microscopy to study the structure of nucleosomes and higher order chromatin organization in human and yeast cells – work that should ultimately impact our understanding of the structural underpinning of gene expression in cells.

Lu will be a visiting professor at UVA until he moves here in January.
