University of Virginia Alice Chen, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology Fellow

Alice Chen, MD

Dr. Chen is from the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California. She attended UC San Diego where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and later a Master’s degree in Neuroscience. She then earned her medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

For residency Dr. Chen traveled across the US to New York City where she completed training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. Afterwards she then moved south to Atlanta where she completed a fellowship in Advanced Pelvic Surgery at Emory University before moving north to Charlottesville to begin her Gynecologic Oncology fellowship at the University of Virginia.

 

 

 

Sarah Podwika, MD - OB/GYN UVA resident physician

Sarah Podwika, MD

Dr. Podwika is from Central Pennsylvania where she grew up and remains, a Penn State fan. She attended Notre Dame for college, where she majored in accounting.  After a couple of years of working, she completed her premed classes by post-bacc at Penn State and moved down to Charlottesville for medical school. She fell in love with the area, the school, and the faculty and staff and hasn’t left.  Dr. Podwika is excited to stay on for a gynecologic oncology fellowship; she cannot imagine a better place to train and live.

University of Virginia Kaylee Underkofler, MD, MPH, GynOnc Fellow

Kaylee Underkofler, MD, MPH

Dr. Underkofler was born and raised in Upstate New York. She attended Ithaca College, where she graduated with a degree in Biochemistry before earning a master’s degree in chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned her medical degree and master’s degree in public health from the Tufts University-Maine Medical Center joint program. She returned to Upstate New York for residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Rochester before moving south to the University of Virginia (UVA) for the gynecologic oncology fellowship.

Dr. Underkofler’s research interests include rural health care access, hereditary cancer genetics, and the influence of exercise & nutrition on cancer outcomes. When she is not working, Dr. Underkofler enjoys spending time with her family, triathlon training, and cooking pasta from scratch.

 

 

Class of 2026

Kathryn Dryer, MD

Dr. Dryer grew up in the Minneapolis/St. Paul suburbs in Minnesota. She attended Williams College, where she majored in Chemistry. She spent a year as a medical scribe prior to earning her medical degree at the University of Chicago. She then completed her residency training in obstetrics & gynecology at the University of Wisconsin before moving to Charlottesville for gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of Virginia. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Dryer enjoys traveling to see family and friends, spending time outdoors, and perfecting the art of charcuterie.
