Dr. Lunardi conducts translational research in neuroscience that leverages her professional interests – Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pharmacology – with the goal of improving postoperative cognitive outcomes in both the anesthesiology and critical care setting. She has been awarded a prestigious K08 grant from the NIH to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms leading to defective cognition and behavioral output after exposure to anesthetics during critical stages of brain development. Her research deploys electrophysiology, behavioral and electroencephalographic techniques to explore how general anesthetics’ powerful modulation of synapses leads to perturbation of learning, memory and sleep wake behavior in the young and aging brain.
