Geir Følling Elgjo, MD, PhD

University of Virginia Geir Elgjo, MD, PhD, AnesthesiologyDr. Geir Følling Elgjo recently joined the University Of Virginia (UVA) School Of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology. Dr. Elgjo comes to us from Norway where he completed his medical education at the University of Oslo in 1987. He then pursued residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He later completed subspecialty training in pediatric burn treatment, cardiac anesthesiology, intensive care medicine, prehospital medicine, and perioperative medical management.

Dr. Elgjo was first appointed as Attending Anesthesiologist at the University Hospital of Northern Norway, and then joined the UVA Anesthesiology faculty as an Assistant Professor from 2004-2008. He then returned to Norway to resume working as an Attending Anesthesiologist until he recently came back to UVA. When Dr. Elgjo was not practicing in the hospital setting in Norway, he worked as a Rescue Helicopter Doctor and was on the editorial board of official Norwegian information channels for patients and the general public regarding anesthesia-related procedures.
