Testimonials
Tyler Henry, CRNA
“I came to UVA two years ago without knowing anyone. The friendships alone have made my time here so valuable. I have trained and worked in many different facilities and I can honestly say I have never seen a stronger group of CRNAs. Both the teamwork and support are unmatched. In terms of clinical practice, my skill set and knowledge base have grown tremendously due to the teaching atmosphere and challenging cases. I also have a good work/life balance and have grown to really love the Charlottesville area. There is so much to do here!”

Ali Griffith, CRNA
“I am in my 16th year working at UVA as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. I came here right out of school in Pennsylvania and have not left. I think the number one reason I have stayed here this long is the work/life balance that UVA offers. As a single father, my schedule has been accommodated to meet the needs of my children and lifestyle. At work, I have come to know and appreciate the great doctors, nurses, and the multi-disciplinary staff that I interact with daily. Geographically, Charlottesville is within an hour’s drive (depending where you live) to Richmond and about 2 hours from DC. Literally in our backyards, we have river access on the Rivanna, many trails throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains including the Appalachian trail, and Virginia beach about 2 1/2 hours away (depending on who’s driving).”

“I earned my PhD at the University of Virginia. I chose to work at UVA Medical Center because they prioritized my doctoral education and adapted my schedule to accommodate my classes. The medical center is supportive of nurse scientists and the anesthesia department specifically has a culture that supports novel research and quality initiatives. It’s also a great place to work and live!”

Wenzhao Zhang, CRNA
“During CRNA school I rotated to over half a dozen hospitals, both private and large academic centers and eventually I decided to work at UVA Health System. As a new graduate CRNA, I wanted a great balance of support and independence, and the anesthesia group at UVA offered just that. I face new challenges each day at work, and have learned so much in the short period I have worked as a CRNA–not to mention that the staff support is amazing. The communication between the surgical team, OR nurses, ancillary staff and the anesthesia team is unparalleled to anywhere else I have worked, and that alone makes my job that much safer and more enjoyable.
