Matthew Holland, MD

hollandDr. Holland is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain Management Division at the University of Virginia. He finished anesthesiology residency at UVA in 2002 and went into private practice in Tucson, AZ. He then completed a pain fellowship at the University of Arizona in 2005. His family moved back to Charlottesville in 2014 and Dr. Holland worked in private practice doing pain management before joining UVA in 2024. Dr. Holland is a senior oral board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology.

He has a special interest in Worker’s Compensation medicine, and performs Independent Medical Examinations. In addition, he enjoys offering a range of interventional pain management treatments including spine and joint radiofrequency ablation, epidural steroid injections, kyphoplasty, minimally invasive lumbar decompression (MILD), and implanted devices such as spinal cord stimulators.
