Asal Pilehvari, PhD, Joins Cancer Center Research Faculty
The Cancer Center welcomes Assistant Professor of Public Health Sciences Asal Pilehvari, PhD, to its Cancer Prevention and Population Health Program.
Dr. Pilehvari’s research focuses on cancer health disparities, health economics and health policy evaluations across the cancer continuum. By employing advanced statistical methodologies, econometrics and machine learning, she explores large-scale national surveys, electronic health records, and claims data to uncover hidden cancer-related disparities and pivotal contributing factors. Her work provides evidence for designing tailored interventions aimed at mitigating preventable cancer health disparities in cancer care.
She is also Technical Director of UVACCC’s Population Health and Cancer Outcomes Core, where she helps support population-based cancer research and data access for Cancer Center investigators.
Dr. Pilehvari earned her master’s in economics from Virginia Tech, where she later earned her PhD in economics in 2021. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Pilehvari!
