Please join Aimee Strong, DNP, AGACNP-BC on November 8, 2023 from 12-1pm for the next webinar on the Lung Cancer Screening Landscape. Dr. Strong has worked as both a RN and NP at UVA since 1995. She worked at Centra Health in Thoracic Surgery from 2015-2019 where she developed and led the first lung cancer screening program for Central and Southside Virginia. Aimee returned to UVA in 2019 to lead the Lung Cancer Screening Program. At both Centra and UVA, patient and provider outreach has been an important aspect of Aimee’s work to grow lung cancer screening in Virginia. In addition to working in the Lung Cancer Screening Program, Aimee also works in Thoracic Surgery where she cares for patient with Lung Cancer, Esophageal cancer, and benign thoracic diseases. Her other clinical interests include smoking cessation, incidental pulmonary nodule management, and health promotion/disease prevention. Aimee received her Bachelor’s in Nursing from VCU, her Master’s in Nursing from UVA, and her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from ODU. Aimee resides with her husband, Bill, in Nelson County Virginia, gleefully enjoying their empty nest.

Screenings start at 8 a.m. for both insured and uninsured individuals. To schedule your screening, please call 434-243-4704.

During this two-day in-person event, research and community efforts to address disparities across the catchment area will be highlighted

Community partners and Cancer Center members will hear how community-based organizations are addressing the cancer burden in Virginia. A short community presentation will be given followed by a networking reception for researchers and community partners.

The Cancer Screening Landscape webinar series is a 6 webinar series offered in a live webinar format scheduled every other month on the second Wednesday of the month from 12-1pm. The live opportunity offers the opportunity to ask questions of the Subject Matter Expert (SME) as well as dialogue with colleagues about the cancer and cancer screening landscape. 1 Continuing Education credit will be awarded for each webinar attended.
The desired outcomes of this series are:
- Develop competencies to communicate cancer screening awareness and patient education effectively.
- Describe best practices to determine appropriate testing for individuals that meet guidelines for cancer screening.
- Explain existing and emerging issues, policies, and barriers to optimizing cancer screening.
The Cervical Cancer Screening Landscape webinar is currently in development with the UVA Medical Education team and information should be available soon.

When: from 5-7 pm
Where: 782 Prospect Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903 (Abundant Life Ministries)
Why*: The purpose of these bi-weekly (every two weeks) events is to advance community engagement and health equity for all. At Fifeville Health Station, residents can receive free blood-pressure and blood-sugar checkups, get help accessing their cancer screenings, as well as take home fresh produce via a pay-what-you-can farm stand.
The next quarterly SWVA CAB Meeting is Thursday, February 22, from noon-1:30 pm via Zoom.
This meeting will be virtual and include subcommittee breakout sessions.

Please join Andrew Wolf, MD, MACP on March 13, 2024, from 12-1pm for the next webinar on the Prostate Cancer Screening Landscape.
Dr. Wolf is Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He joined the faculty of the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1993, where he serves as Associate Program Director for UVA’s Internal Medicine Residency Program. Starting with an American Cancer Society Cancer Control Career Development Award, Dr. Wolf has almost three decades of experience in the area of cancer early detection and cancer control, and has research expertise in shared doctor-patient decision making for cancer screening.
