Preliminary Track

Night float residentsThe Preliminary Track is designed to allow individuals to gain a broad experience in Internal Medicine before continuing their careers in other medical disciplines. The year includes inpatient rotations on the General Medicine services, Medical Intensive Care Unit, Acute Cardiology, Coronary Care Unit, and Hematology-Oncology. Although preliminary year interns do not have a continuity clinic of their own, they have the opportunity to spend time in a number of ambulatory settings. Preliminary Track interns spend roughly 30 weeks inpatient with the remaining weeks spent in outpatient or consult electives. Resident preference and career goals are taken into account in elective assignments.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, we tentatively plan to match 2-3 preliminary interns.
