Undergraduate Students
CMCP faculty are deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists. Undergraduate students — particularly those studying Chemistry, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, and related fields — are welcomed into CMCP laboratories to engage in meaningful, hands-on research.
Through immersive experiences at the bench and in collaborative research teams, students gain not only technical skills but also the intellectual confidence and curiosity that define scientific discovery. In CMCP labs, undergraduates do more than assist — they contribute to advancing knowledge at the frontiers of biology and medicine.
Starr Hill Pathways Program
Starr Hill Pathways student
Stefanie Redemann, PhD, an associate professor of CMCP has collaborated with other partners to lead a yearly summer program, which included connecting the UVA School of Medicine clinicians and researchers with the Starr Hill Pathways program.
For two weeks, middle school students in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City schools explored career opportunities in various fields of medicine. The program brings together five clinical departments and six basic science labs to introduce the students to medicine, from genetically modifying cells to intubating patients.
