July 2023 – Congratulations to Synphane Gibbs-Shelton and her mentor Ukpong Eyo on receiving one of the 50 national Howard Hughes Medical Institute Gilliam Fellowships to Advance Equity and Inclusion in Science Awards!
The Gilliam Fellows Program invests in graduate students and their advisers who embody leadership in science and are committed to advancing equity and inclusion in science. Implemented in 2004, it has since supported 451 mentee mentor pairs; this is only the second time a student-mentor pair from UVA has won this prestigious award.
