Thank you for your interest in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency program at UVA.
We invite applications from graduates of allopathic, osteopathic, and international medical schools. All applicants must be within 4 years of graduation from medical school. Please note that all applicants must follow the USMLE examination pathway, including D.O. candidates. The University of Virginia sponsors a J-1 visa. International medical school graduates must be eligible for ECFMG certification prior to matriculation and demonstrate spoken and written English proficiency.

All applications must include the following items:
- CAS Common Application, Medical School Transcript, and USMLE Transcript –we will consider all applicants that have passed Step 1 and 2. Step 2 scores are NOT required to obtain an interview
- 3 letters of recommendation, one of which is the SLOE and two of which are Ob/Gyn faculty members at your School of Medicine
- Personal statement
- The Medical School Performance Evaluation (“Dean’s Letter”) is sent to the residency programs via CAS
- We receive over 500 applications and typically interview approximately 60-70 candidates in November. There are 4 interview days per year.
- Our Residency Selection Committee reviews all signaled applications. Scheduling interviews will be done through CAS.
- The night before each interview day, our residents will hold a virtual gathering for the candidates.
- The University of Virginia Ob/Gyn Residency program fully adheres to the Standards to the OBGYN Application and Interview Process as outlined by APGO/CREOG.
Although we welcome visiting students for 4th year rotations, a visiting rotation is not required to be considered for an interview. We use a holistic application review process in order to select applicants for interviews, and consider each applicant based on the content of their application.
The Final Application Deadline is September 24, 2025.
Any application received after this date will not be reviewed.
- Interview Offers will be released on: October 28th, 2025
- Final notification date regarding application status: November 26th, 2025
- Our residency program will offer 64 interviews for 5 resident positions.
- All interviews will be virtual. We have always limited the number of invitations to the total number of interview slots.
- We will offer waitlist slots for each of our interview dates in the event of cancellations.

During the interview day, candidates meet with several of our faculty members, including the Chair, Dr. Paola Gehrig, Program Director, Laura Parsons, MD, and the Associate Program Director, Kari Ring, MD. You will also interview with our residents. A residency program overview and a virtual tour of the hospital facilities will also be a part of the interview day.

- 9:00-10:00 AM – Program Overview
- 10:00-10:15 AM – Break
- 10:15–12:15 PM – Interviews/Residents
- 12:20 PM – Closing Remarks
