Group Coaching Certificate Program (GCCP)

New cohort starting in October/November 2025.  Weekly sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 12 noon – 2 pm ET.

The Group Coaching Certificate Program is a six-month advanced training program designed to enhance the coaching skills of National DPP Lifestyle Coaches. Developed and tested by the CDC and the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC), this advanced training will equip coaches with the confidence necessary to effectively coach National DPP participants.

Evidence demonstrates that coaches who complete this course experience a significant increase in their confidence levels, while their participants exhibit improved attendance, retention, and risk reduction.

The program meets weekly and covers 24 coaching competencies and skills categorized into five areas:

  • Category I: Building Trust, Rapport, and Intimacy, and Creating Coaching Presence
  • Category II: Enhancing Communication Skills
  • Category III: Applying Skills Specific to Groups
  • Category IV: Cultivating Self-Management Skills
  • Category V: Propelling Health Behavior Change

Each coaching skill/competency includes a weekly online lesson and a live (virtual) training session. The online lesson, consisting of a 10–30-minute video and knowledge-check questions, is completed prior to attending the live training session. Live training sessions typically last between 60 and 120 minutes and provide an opportunity for coaches to practice the skill, pose questions, and receive constructive feedback from their Master Trainers.

The Group Coaching Certificate Program requires a significant time commitment and it’s important to ensure that your organization is fully prepared to support the Coach and training. To assess your readiness to complete this training, please download and email the completed Group Coaching Certificate Program Screening Tool to Jaelyn Munson. Upon receipt, we will review and contact you regarding registration.

The cost of this training is $2500. Scholarships are available through 2320 Funding to the State’s Department of Health. For more information, please contact your State Quality Specialist.
