The University of Virginia Department of Anesthesiology comprises general and specialty faculty anesthesiologists. UVA Anesthesiologists deliver outstanding care, work tirelessly to educate the next generation of anesthesiologists, advance our specialty through meaningful research, and engage in our local community.
The UVA Health University Hospital is a tertiary care hospital with a Level 1 Trauma Center where our faculty members staff over 70 anesthetic sites, 3 ICUs, and 2 Pain Clinics on any given day. UVA Anesthesiologists perform or direct approximately 50,000 anesthetics per year. The department also performs around 13,000 acute and chronic pain visits, and about 10,000 ICU encounters in 3 different ICUs (CT-ICU, NNICU, STICU).
