Introduction to Mindfulness for Healthcare Employees

Description

Working in healthcare can be stressful, and mindfulness is a proven method of improving resilience and well-being.  Introduction to Mindfulness is a briefer version of the eight-week, 20-hour Mindfulness for Healthcare Employees program that the Mindfulness Center has offered for over 20 years.

Introduction to Mindfulness is ideal for those who want to learn about mindfulness and how to apply it to reduce stress both at work and at home with a shorter initial time commitment.  It can be taken alone, as an introductory offering before taking the full 20-hour course, or as a follow-up to the longer course for those who want a refresher.

This course addresses the application of mindfulness in multiple areas, including reducing personal stress and increasing well-being, and improving communication with patients and others. In addition, familiarity with the practice of mindfulness can help healthcare professionals determine the suitability of mindfulness programs for patients.

The 6-week course meets on Zoom for 90 minutes each week.

There is no cost for any UVA Health employee (including the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Medical Center, Health System Library, and University Physicians Group).
