World Renowned Expertise in Neurointerventional Surgery

With over forty-five years of experience in the field of neurointerventional surgery, the Interventional Neuroradiology division represents the most experienced group of physicians performing complex endovascular neurosurgery in the state of Virginia. In a collaborative model, Interventional Neuroradiology along with Endovascular Neurosurgery and Vascular Neurosurgery comprise the Neurointerventional Surgery service at the University of Virginia Health System.

The Interventional Neuroradiology Division is comprised of three physicians, all of whom are residency-trained in neuroradiology; and one of whom has a certificate of advanced qualification (CAW) in diagnostic neuroradiology.

Services Provided

As a group, the Interventional Neuroradiology Division has extensive experience in the endovascular treatment of complex cerebrovascular disease, including the treatment of well over 3,000 ruptured and unruptured intracranial aneurysms, as well as the highest level of experience and expertise in the state of Virginia in the use of the newest technology for brain aneurysm treatment and flow diversion. Two of our physicians are nationally renowned for their education and proctorship of other neurointerventionalists in the use of flow diversion for the treatment of brain aneurysms.

The Interventional Neuroradiology service at the University of Virginia Health System offers endovascular and percutaneous treatment of a wide variety of diseases affecting the central nervous system, including ruptured and unruptured brain aneurysms, arteriovenous  malformations (AVMS) and fistulas (AVFs), ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, intra and extracranial steno-occlusive vascular disease, vascular malformations and tumors of the head and neck, and painful vertebral body compression fractures.

Center of Excellence

The University of Virginia is a Center of Excellence for the treatment of cerebrovascular disease, with a dedicated Neuro intensive care unit and associated intermediate care unit, as well as a dedicated critical care physicians on site 24/7 and a multidisciplinary team comprised of leaders in the field of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Critical Care medicine, and Neuroradiology, providing unparalleled treatment for patients with cerebrovascular disease.
