The Hand Center

UVA’s Hand Center is a comprehensive, multifaceted Medical Facility dedicated to the care of the hand and upper extremity. The center specializes in disorders of the hand, wrist, and elbow and treat a wide spectrum of disorders from carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis to complex fractures, sports injuries, neurovascular injuries, and congenital hand differences.Our center is equipped with an onsite radiology suite which is staffed with radiologists who specialize in musculoskeletal imaging, diagnostic studies, and interventional procedures.

Surgery Gave a Boy Thumbs

Although Connor Woodle has a genetic disorder that resulted in him being born without thumbs, he now has all the dexterity he needs thanks to Dr. Bobby Chhabra, co-founder of the UVA Hand Center, who created thumbs for Connor over the course of two operations.

New Orthopedic Center to Open

The center will bring together virtually all of UVA Orthopedics outpatient clinics that now are found at multiple locations, including the UVA Hand Center, UVA Orthopedic Spine Center, UVA Sports Medicine Center, UVA Joint Replacement Center, UVA Foot and Ankle Center, UVA Orthopedic Trauma Center, UVA Orthopedic Oncology clinic and the UVA Prosthetics and Orthotics Center.

Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship

This UVA fellowship combines clinical, teaching, and research opportunities for orthopaedic surgeons interested in furthering their knowledge of the upper extremity. Training emphasizes traumatic, congenital, and acquired conditions of the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow with exposure to traumatic and arthritic conditions of the shoulder.
