Community Service Committee

Mulholland Community Service Committee

The Community Service Committee is made up of the Community Service Chair, Community Service Vice-Chair, and two representatives from the first and second year medical school classes. They plan service events throughout the year such as the Orientation Day of Service, Boo House, Camp Holiday Trails 5K, and more, as well as connect students to volunteer opportunities in the Charlottesville community! Orientation Day of Service 2022

In August 2022, our 154 new first-year medical students took part in the first annual Orientation Day of Service at 18 different service sites across Charlottesville! The event, which was organized entirely by the Mulholland Community Service Chairs, involved activities like cleaning up local parks, hosting ice cream socials at local retirement communities, sorting donated inventory at Salvation Army, and packing educational kits for Computers4Kids. The first-year students were grateful for the brief break from lectures and for the opportunity to serve their community while bonding with their peers! As one student said after the event, “it was so fun to be able to spend time with my classmates while also doing something meaningful together.” We agree!

Below are selected pictures from the event. For questions, please reach out to the Mulholland Society Community Service Chair.

Each year, UVA Med hosts a 5K to benefit Camp Holiday Trails. This organization provides a summer camp for children with special health needs. Their mission is to empower, encourage, and educate children with chronic illnesses, their families, and healthcare professionals through traditional camp programs aimed at personal growth.

Over the years, UVA Med has helped raise nearly $100,000 for the organization.
