Have you visited the Pharm website in search of the name of a speaker who visited us recently and found the information missing? If so, we’ve got some good news for you! You can now find an archived list of speakers from both the top navigation menu (News and Events > Seminar Series > Seminar Archive) and on the left hand side of the Seminar Series page!
We caught up with the Pharmacology Web Manager, Jolene Kidd, to find out why the archive disappeared. Here’s what she told us: “When we transitioned our site into WordPress, one of our goals was to reduce the amount of duplicated data entry happening behind the scenes. One area creating double data entry was our seminar series, which had to be posted in the School of Medicine (SOM) Health System Calendar (HSC) as well as on our website. The SOM Web team, Ray Nedzel and Cathy Derecki, created the UVA SOM Calendar Widget, which allows me to enter data once, into the HSC, and then have it automatically populate on our webpage. What we didn’t realize at the time was that once the date/time for an event passes in the HSC, the event disappears…and there is no way to automatically have that information populate an archive document!”
Ms. Kidd wasn’t the only one to miss the online archive of speakers — some of you did too — so she spent some time creating a seminar archive page for our website. The list dates back to Spring 2009, which is as far back as we could find reliable records. We’ve had some great speakers over the years — check it out and reminisce.
