Research Interests
Role of endogenous peptides in control of cardiorespiratory function
Research Description
My research interests have centered on understanding the biochemical, pharmacological, physiological and anatomical basis of the role of neuropeptides, endogenous opiates, GABA and glycine in the control of cardiorespiratory function. My current research is to understand how the C1 adrenergic neurons of the lower brainstem might control the autonomic responses to physiological stressors, how these neurons might be heterogeneous and trying to determine markers associated with specific functions. The current projects involve microscopic analysis of rodent brains after procedures to reveal specific mRNAs or proteins expressed by these neurons.
