I am a lifelong Virginia resident who grew up in the southwestern part of the state. After spending my childhood and college years mostly in the New River Valley area, I pursued a career in industrial and systems engineering in the healthcare field. I spent around 8 years working in process improvement in healthcare, first interning for a for-profit hospital system, then working for a not-for-profit system in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Most recently, I supported the US Navy’s healthcare system as a civilian industrial engineer. Throughout this time, I worked on projects with the goal of maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of various health systems.Outside of work, I volunteered for a free clinic and realized the strength of my interest in providing direct care to patients. This led me to UVA School of Medicine, where I am excited to be a part of the Generalist Scholars Program. I am enjoying the opportunity to enhance my med school experience with continued focus on a public health and systems approach to the health of individuals.
