Our mission is to provide excellence, innovation and superior quality in the care of patients, in the training and mentoring of health professionals, and in the creation and sharing of knowledge in women’s health.

Our Department has a long history of success in these areas as a result of our teamwork, collaboration and mutual support among our members.The combination of the unparalleled expertise of our faculty and our colleagues and the state-of-the-art facilities and technology of our medical center, allows us to provide our patients with the most advanced care available in the region – all at one site.

Our resident graduates are highly sought after and pursue prestigious fellowship and private practice opportunities on a regular basis. Our fellows are also recruited by premier academic health centers.

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia Health System. On behalf of the faculty, fellows, residents and staff, we welcome you.

Reasons for visiting our website vary by individual. Many visit to learn more about primary and subspecialty care. We offer patient-centered care for uncomplicated pregnancies and a host of various gynecologic conditions at a variety of convenient locations including the Northridge Campus (just west of Grounds), the Primary Care Center (on Grounds), and in Louisa County to the east. UVA Midwifery provides a variety of services for women through pregnancy and birth as well as primary care at all stages of life.

 

Advanced Sub-specialty Care

We offer pioneering and technologically advanced sub-specialty care in the areas of high-risk pregnancies (Maternal-Fetal Medicine, both obstetrical and medical complications and fetal diagnostic services); cancers of the reproductive track (Gynecologic Oncology); female pelvic continence  (Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery); menopausal medicine (Midlife Health); and unique non-surgical approaches to treat uterine fibroids (Fibroid Treatment Center) (MR guided focused ultrasound).
