Division Chief

The Division of Laboratory Medicine provides medical directorship and diagnostic services in the broad array of laboratory-based diagnostics in the UVA Medical Laboratories, as well as in the Blood Bank and Stem Cell Processing Laboratories. In addition to oversight of day-to-day diagnostic operations and consultations with clinicians, Pathology faculty are critical in the maintenance of laboratory certification, control of laboratory test utilization, development and deployment of new assays, control of laboratory utilization, and operation of point-of-care testing. Specific named laboratories and services in their purview include: clinical chemistry, allergy/immunology, toxicology/therapeutic drug monitoring, endocrinology, coagulation, biochemical genetics, cytogenetics, clinical genomics, molecular diagnostics, hematopathology, flow cytometry, bacteriology, virology, mycology, transfusion medicine, stem cell and point-of-care testing. Pathology faculty also oversee laboratory informatics, an extremely complex but critical flow of diagnostic information from an armada of instrumentation and diagnosticians into the electronic medical record in an efficient and error-free manner.
