In 2023, UVA’s congenital heart program performed 18 pediatric heart transplants, the most ever performed in a year at UVA (13 was the previous best in 2018). Of the 18 transplants, 6 of the patients were transplanted off of Ventricular Assist Devices. This number of transplants puts UVA in the top 5% in the country in terms of volume. This accomplishment is a direct reflection of an amazing team working extremely close together on a very complex patient population to achieve phenomenal results!
