Research/Clinical Interests
Dr. Alves is a Medical Physicist with extensive experience in quality audits and research in Radiation Therapy. He joined the University of Virginia faculty in 2020 after completing his Medical Physics Residency and serving as a Medical Physicist at the National Cancer Institute in Rio de Janeiro/Brazil, for over a decade. Dr. Alves was involved in various research projects coordinated by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), where he developed software and methods to advance radiotherapy quality assurance. His research interests include film/EPID dosimetry, radiation therapy planning, multi-objective optimization, robust statistics, uncertainty estimation, GEANT4 Monte Carlo simulation, and artificial intelligence applications in radiotherapy.
