Arlene Davis, JD, University of Virginia Center for Health Humanities and Ethics

Arlene M. Davis, JD, is an attorney and Associate Professor of Social Medicine, as well as Director of the UNC Center for Bioethics. She is also Director of the Clinical Ethics Service at UNC Hospitals, working with a multidisciplinary team offering consultations pertaining to ethical issues and the experience of moral distress.

Arlene’s work focuses on practical ethics in both clinical and research settings, drawing upon her prior work in private practice and in pediatric, psychiatric, and public health nursing. Her research interests include ethical and legal issues in genomic research, characterizations of vulnerable populations, approaches for teaching practical ethics in medical education, and the practice of ethics consultation.
