Dr. Rachel Kon is an assistant professor at UVA School of Medicine and an attending physician at University Medical Associates. She is also the Director of thePatient Student Partnership (PSP), which pairs incoming medical students with patient partners.

Although PSP is new, matching students with chronically ill patients is not new to the School of Medicine.

Dr. Margaret Plews-Ogan piloted the Phronesis Project, which was developed to foster wisdom and empathy in UVA medical students in 2014.
Due to its three year success, the School of Medicine added this longitudinal patient experience to the curriculum. In August 2018, each incoming student will be paired with a patient partner.
