In the News…Dr. Deborah Vinton in a race against time:

Dr. Deborah Vinton, Hugh Cline, and members of the Richmond Ambulance Association with Jeff Stover – Man Reunites with Life Savers

In a race against time, situational awareness and quick response by Dr. Deborah Vinton, Assistant Professor and Emergency physician at UVA, and Hugh Cline, a flight medic with Air Care Medivac, along with first responders with Richmond Ambulance Authority saved the life of Jeff Stover at the Monument Avenue 10K on April 1st, 2017.

For more details and video of this story of the right person with the right training doing the right thing, see the news story which was reported on CBS Channel 12 out of Richmond by Jasmine Turner under the caption of Man reunites with first responders who saved his life at Monument Avenue 10K on June 2nd.

The take away is more than ensuring you run a race with an outstanding Emergency Medicine Physician and an Air Medic, it is the understanding that lives are saved by fast and early response.  Fast and early response is what is provided by people who are nearby when someone collapses from a potential heart attack. It is the clerk at the store who responses to a customer; it is your barista that jump starts the heart of new customer getting coffee; it is the student, the administrative assistant, the crossing guard, the person walking down the street or even the person in the car behind you that knows what to do and when the unfortunate event comes their or your way.

Now the question, if it was you running with Mr. Stover, a husband and father of three, be thanking you for saving his life?  Do you know what to do?  Do you know how to use an AED or perform CPR?  If you don’t know if you could or you don’t know what to do, then check out the American Heart Association website, the American Red Cross website, or even the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad website for CPR with hands-on training.

Learn CPR and encourage others as well, the life they may save could be yours.
