Salary

The stipend for trainees is based upon the appropriate Post Graduate Year (PGY) in the appointed training program, according to the minimum number of years required for specialty or subspecialty Board certification.

Vacation

  • All residents are entitled to 3 weeks of vacation per 12 months period
  • Time away from the residency program for educational purposes, such as workshops or continuing medical education activities, up to 5 days annually, is not counted in the general limitation on absences.

Plastic Surgery Resident Research, Educational Courses and Travel Support

Our Plastic Surgery Department offers Off-Site Educational Courses, Meetings and Travel 

All PGY levels are encouraged to attend one instructional course per year. Suggested courses are listed below, however alternative courses may be an option if approved by the Education Team. Costs of travel, hotel and registration will be covered by the Department to a level of $2,000 per year.

PGY 6 – Senior Residents Conference

PGY 5 – Flap Course (August)

PGY 4 – ASMS Basic Craniomaxillofacial Course (August)

PGY 3 – AO Hand Course

PGY 2 – Plastic Surgery Research Council or ACAPS Winter Meeting

PGY 1 – ACAPS/ASPS Resident Bootcamp

Alternatives – AO Basic, ORC

Dedicated Meetings:

For residents in the PGY 3-6 level, one plastic surgery specific meeting per year can be selected for attendance. The Department will cover travel, registration, and hotel expenses not to exceed $2,000. Costs for standard airfare and meeting block hotel rooms and other travel expenses will be honored.

Attendance at Additional Meetings with Podium Presentations:

Residents at all levels may also attend meetings where they have been awarded a podium presentation. Any presentations that are over 5 minutes long and have an associated discussion will be considered acceptable for attendance.  Three of these types of meetings per year is permitted per resident.

Dental Resident Travel and Course Support

PGY 1 Dental Residents

Each PGY 1 resident will be supported to attend one dental educational course each year with the approval from the education team.

In addition all PGY 1 residents will receive 1500.00 a year in reimbursement to cover travel, hotel and registration for a conference or educational materials deemed necessary by the education team.

PGY 2 Dental Residents

Each PGY 2 resident will be supported to attend one dental educational course each year with the approval from the education team.

In addition all PGY 2 residents will receive 500.00 a year in reimbursement to cover travel, hotel and registration for a conference or educational materials deemed necessary by the education team.
