Program Leadership
Program Director - Anne Louise Stewart, MD
Dr. Anne Louise Stewart is Program Director for the adult general psychiatry program. She joined the UVA team as a Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry faculty after completing a C-L fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern. She was the Associate Program Director for the adult general psychiatry program and was part of the Reproductive Psychiatry Research Program before transitioning to Program Director. She is passionate about scholarly education, developing new curricula, and caring for patients alongside residents and fellows.
Associate Program Director - Hema Kher, MD MPH
Dr. Hema Kher is associate program director for adult general psychiatry residency. She completed psychiatry residency and C-L psychiatry fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. During fellowship, she completed a psychosocial oncology track at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She joined UVA as an inpatient C-L attending and staffs a psychiatry clinic at UVA’s Emily Couric Cancer Center. She enjoys spending time with her husband and son, exploring restaurants and bakeries in the Charlottesville area, and spending time outdoors.
Assistant Program Director - Katherine Wu, MD
Dr. Katherine Wu is an assistant program director for adult general psychiatry residen
cy at UVA. She attended medical school at Northeast Ohio Medical University where she also obtained a Master’s in Medical Ethics and Health Humanities. She completed adult general psychiatry residency at the University of Virginia where she was chief resident in consultation-liaison psychiatry. She is interested in neuropsychiatry, psychotherapy, and interventional psychiatry. In her free time, she likes to run, do pilates, try new restaurants, and go to concerts.
Assistant Program Director - Keri Stevenson, MD
Dr. Keri Ann Stevenson is an assistant program director for the adult general psychiatry program. She completed psychiatry residency at the University of Virginia followed by forensic psychiatry fellowship at Yale University. She practices in the outpatient setting with a clinical focus in perinatal psychiatry, and she also conducts forensic evaluations for local courts and attorneys. Outside of work, she enjoys doing aerial silks and powerlifting.
Program Administrators - Laura Covert, Kathryn Bertoni & Erin Whitson

The administrator team manages and coordinates both the general residency and all of the fellowships of the department.
Laura Covert is the program administrator for the psychiatry residency and fellowship programs. She grew up in Charlottesville and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Warren Wilson College in environmental studies. She supports residents and fellows in their personal and professional growth and enjoys introducing candidates to the city and the program. In her spare time, she works on her urban farm with her husband tending a few goats, a small flock of ducks and a large vegetable garden.
Kathryn joined UVA in 2023 after living in the Charlottesville area for over two decades, working in sustainable agriculture and specialty food service and retail. She grew up near Richmond, VA and graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in theater. She enjoys spending time outdoors, playing music with her pals, playing and watching soccer with her family, and sipping coffee on the porch with her cat.
Erin returned to the Charlottesville area about ten years ago after working in government contracting for the Pentagon and the Office of Naval Research. She started with the team in January after years of project coordinator work for a global, not-for-profit organization. Erin graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Spanish. She loves going on adventures with her twin boys, reading and watching all things horror, cooking, and music – whether it’s listening, playing guitar, or going to shows.
