Education

The Department of Urology at the University of Virginia has earned a reputation as one of the premier programs of its kind in the world. Its uniqueness stems from the “bench-to-bedside” approach to urologic disorders and depth of accomplished academic faculty. The Department ranks among the top echelon of urologic academic research institutions in America, and is highly rated in the US News and World Report. The composition of this clinical Department (not Division) is unique and attests to its commitment to research and teaching. Our faculty have served as presidents of the American Urologic Association, the Society for Basic Urologic Research, the American Fertility Society, the Society for Reproductive Research, and the Andrology Society.

As a result of its international reputation, the Department has been able to attract the highest quality basic scientists, physicians, residents and fellows to pursue its mission of finding cures for urological disorders. Indeed, urologists and scientists from around the world view the Department as a resource for genitourinary research and arrange formal visits by academicians from the European Union and Asia.
