Miguel Yerena, MD
Undergraduate: College of William and Mary
Medical School: Eastern Virginia Medical School
Hey there! My name is Miguel, I’m from Chesapeake, Virginia but grew up in a Navy family so I’ve called a few other places home too! I went to William & Mary for undergrad (Go Tribe) then moved on to medical school in Norfolk at Eastern Virginina Medical School. I majored in Neuroscience which got my interest going early in
Neurology and some charismatic Neurologists during medical school really solidified that interest (thank you Dr. Wyant and Dr. Yilmaz). I would say I’m interested most in Neuromuscular or Movement disorders but only time will tell if that changes! I am one of two Child Neuro residents in the 2030 class; I chose UVA because of the high-level of care combined with the more intimate learning environment a fostered by the program allows for a unique ability to see complex medical cases while having the support from upper level residents and attendings who are eager to teach. A huge plus of residency in Charlottesville is being close to the mountains, as I really enjoy hiking on the nearby trails and exploring the city and its many breweries and wineries.
