Community Outreach & Engagement

Community Outreach and Engagement is a long-standing part of the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center, with almost two decades of commitment to the community and ensuring access to effective cancer control strategies to improve the lives of residents and cancer patients throughout our catchment area regardless of distance, insurance, or poverty status.

By supporting community-academic partnerships, we are able to increase the capacity of research in our communities that is responsive to the pressing health concerns of community members in our catchment area and disseminate culturally relevant cancer control education, screening and survivorship programs and services across Virginia and West Virginia.

Our mission is to reduce the cancer burden in the community by fostering strategic and collaborative partnerships that promote health equity for all. We achieve this through evidence-based education and interventions, supporting advocacy efforts, building capacity, and providing inclusive research opportunities that address the unique needs of communities.
