Thursday, August 15th, the National Park Service (NPS), Forefront Dermatology of Fishersville, and UVA OCOE will host a free skin cancer screening event for Shenandoah National Park employees. Forefront Dermatology of Fishersville will provide free skin cancer screenings, while UVA COE will be onsite for cancer screening navigation services and information. Shenandoah NPS Headquarters, from 9-noon and then 1-3 pm.
The Sunbeatables program begins a 16-course at Buena Vista City Public Schools- FW Kling ES on August 27, 2024.
The University of Virginia’s Comprehensive Cancer Center works with school programs to implement Ray and the Sunbeatables®: A Sun Safety Curriculum. This free, evidence-based curriculum educates children, parents, and teachers about sun protection and promotes sun safety behaviors to reduce children’s lifetime risk of developing skin cancer. The curriculum was developed by the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Join this event for the remarkable true story of Henrietta Lacks. Following the screening, there will be a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring ethics, medical history, and the impact of Henrietta Lacks’ legacy. This event is sponsored by partners: Calvary Baptist Church, Westmoreland Neighborhood Organization, UVA Cancer Center, Sovah Health, and Piedmont Pan-Hellenic Council.
The next quarterly SWVA CAB Meeting is Thursday, October 17, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.
This meeting will be virtual and include subcommittee breakout sessions.
