What: Fifeville Community Health Station

When: from 5-7 pm

Where: 782 Prospect Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903 (Abundant Life Ministries)

Why*: The purpose of these bi-weekly (every two weeks) events is to advance community engagement and health equity for all. At Fifeville Health Station, residents can receive free blood-pressure and blood-sugar checkups, get help accessing their cancer screenings, as well as take home fresh produce via a pay-what-you-can farm stand.

Prostate Cancer Screening Landscape Webinar

UVA Cancer Center is excited to continue the Cancer Screening Landscape Webinar Series.

Please join Andrew Wolf, MD, MACP on March 13, 2024, from 12-1pm for the next webinar on the Prostate Cancer Screening Landscape.

Dr. Wolf is Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He joined the faculty of the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1993, where he serves as Associate Program Director for UVA’s Internal Medicine Residency Program. Starting with an American Cancer Society Cancer Control Career Development Award, Dr. Wolf has almost three decades of experience in the area of cancer early detection and cancer control, and has research expertise in shared doctor-patient decision making for cancer screening.

 The Cancer Screening Landscape webinar series is a 6 webinar series offered in a live webinar format scheduled every other month on the second Wednesday of the month from 12-1pm.  The live opportunity offers the opportunity to ask questions of the Subject Matter Expert (SME) as well as dialogue with colleagues about the cancer and cancer screening landscape.  1 Continuing Education credit will be awarded for each webinar attended and details on how to claim this credit will be announced during the live webinar.

The desired outcomes of this series are:

  • Develop competencies to communicate cancer screening awareness and patient education effectively.
  • Describe best practices to determine appropriate testing for individuals that meet guidelines for cancer screening.
  • Explain existing and emerging issues, policies, and barriers to optimizing cancer screening.

The webinar will continue to be available in an asynchronous format without the live discussion opportunity for those who can’t be available for the live offering.  The CRC Cancer Screening Landscape webinar, Breast Cancer Screening Landscape webinar, Lung Cancer Screening Landscape webinar, and Cervical Cancer Screening Landscape webinar are currently in development with the UVA Medical Education team and should be available soon.  You will receive an email with instructions on how to access this offer.

Eliminate Tobacco Use Virginia Summit 2024 @ Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

The Eliminate Tobacco Use Initiative convenes an annual summit addressing the key areas of policy, prevention/education and cessation. The Eliminate Tobacco Use Summit creates a collaborative environment for institutions of higher education, along with key stakeholders at the state and national level to share best practices and increase their network and community of support.

The Virginia Summit will be held in person at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden (1800 Lakeside Ave. Richmond, VA 23228).

The City of Danville would like to invite you to be a part of our Employee Health, Wellness and Resource Fair on Thursday, April 17, 2024 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Community Market on Craghead Street.

 The goals of the Health, Wellness, and Resource Fair include educating City employees and retirees on how to live healthier lifestyles, increasing their awareness of health-related services available to them in our community, helping them plan for retirement, and providing them with resources in the area available to them.
