The Cancer Screening Landscape webinar series is a 6 webinar series offered in a live webinar format scheduled every other month on the second Wednesday of the month from 12-1pm. The live opportunity offers the opportunity to ask questions of the Subject Matter Expert (SME) as well as dialogue with colleagues about the cancer and cancer screening landscape. 1 Continuing Education credit will be awarded for each webinar attended.
The desired outcomes of this series are:
- Develop competencies to communicate cancer screening awareness and patient education effectively.
- Describe best practices to determine appropriate testing for individuals that meet guidelines for cancer screening.
- Explain existing and emerging issues, policies, and barriers to optimizing cancer screening.
The Cervical Cancer Screening Landscape webinar is currently in development with the UVA Medical Education team and information should be available soon.

This webinar will be presented by Mark Russell, MD. Dr. Russell is a Professor of Dermatology, Otolaryngology, and Pathology and Director of Mohs and Dermatologic Surgery at UVA. The University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing designates this live webinar for 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. The task force aims to prioritize, act on, and decrease cancer disparities in the region, ensuring proactive cancer screenings and vaccinations. The next meeting is scheduled for July 22, 1- 3 pm, at the United Way Meeting Space in Danville. For more information, contact Ashley Banegas.

Thursday, August 15th, the National Park Service (NPS), Forefront Dermatology of Fishersville, and UVA OCOE will host a free skin cancer screening event for Shenandoah National Park employees. Forefront Dermatology of Fishersville will provide free skin cancer screenings, while UVA COE will be onsite for cancer screening navigation services and information. Shenandoah NPS Headquarters, from 9-noon and then 1-3 pm.
The Sunbeatables program begins a 16-course at Buena Vista City Public Schools- FW Kling ES on August 27, 2024.
The University of Virginia’s Comprehensive Cancer Center works with school programs to implement Ray and the Sunbeatables®: A Sun Safety Curriculum. This free, evidence-based curriculum educates children, parents, and teachers about sun protection and promotes sun safety behaviors to reduce children’s lifetime risk of developing skin cancer. The curriculum was developed by the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Participating Health & Wellness organizations will give FUN FAIR attendees who stop at their table/tent to learn about their services a raffle ticket. Attendees can use the raffle tickets to enter into drawings for prizes. Prize drawings will take place at 4:45 pm (you do not need to be present to win – we can call you).
