How to Apply
PGY 1 Trainees
The University of Virginia Psychiatry Residency Training Program accepts applications for PGY-1 applications through ERAS only.
We prefer applicants who:
- have a demonstrated interest in psychiatry.
- have excellent clinical skills.
- have passed the USMLE or COMLEX tests on first attempt.
- have graduated within the last 3 years.
We support J1 visas only.
We review and assess each application on its individual merits.
PGY 2-4 Trainees
In the event that there are openings in advanced training positions, the Department will list its positions on the APA Clearinghouse of Available Residencies.
Applicants must submit a Universal Application, USMLE score reports, CV, personal statement, three recent letters of reference, medical school transcript and dean’s letter.
If the resident is currently in a program, there must be a letter from the current training director stating that he/she is aware the resident is seeking training in another program.
