Rotations & Call Schedule
Typical Resident Schedule
Below are outlines of schedule requirements for each program year.
- Inpatient Wards (2-3 months)
- Hematology-Oncology (1 month)
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit / Intermediate Care Nursery (2 months)
- Newborn Nursery (1 month)
- Emergency Medicine (2 weeks of nights and 2-4 weeks of clinic in the morning and ED shifts in the afternoons)
- Ambulatory Pediatrics (3-4 months)
- Outpatient Developmental (1 month)
- 2 weeks of elective and 2 weeks of mental health
- Continuity Clinic (one half-day per week)
- Mental Health Rotation (2 weeks)
Night Call:
We use a night float system shared among the interns for the following rotations:
- Wards
- NICU/ICN
- Emergency Medicine
Vacation: 2 two-weeks
- Hematology-Oncology (1 month)
- ICU selective (NICU or PICU) 1 month
- Wards admitting senior (2 weeks)
- Emergency Medicine Day Shifts (1 month)
- 1 month Ambulatory General Pediatrics
- Split coverage of after hour clinic phone triage from 5-9 pm
- Emergency Medicine Night Shifts (2 weeks)
- Community Pediatrics (2 weeks)
- Adolescent Medicine (1 month in Year 2 or 3)
- Wards Night Float (2 weeks)
- Electives (4-5 months)
- Continuity Clinic (one half-day per week)
Night call:
- Ward – 2 weeks night float; 1 month of days with 28-hour call
- PICU – 1 week of nights, 2 weeks of ED nights
- Electives – See the above addition of “split coverage”
Vacation: 2 two-weeks
- Inpatient Wards (2 – 2.5 months)
- NICU (1 month) – Procedural elective with limited call/rounding responsibilities
- Wards Night Float (2 weeks)
- Wards admitting senior (2 weeks)
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (1 month)
- Emergency Medicine Night Shifts (2 weeks)
- Adolescent Medicine (1 month in Year 2 or 3)
- Electives (4-5 months, including subspecialty rotations)
- Includes split coverage of after hour clinic phone triage until 9pm
- Continuity Clinic (one half-day per week)
Night call:
- Ward – 2 weeks night float; with few 28-hour calls on Friday and Saturday
- PICU – night float (1 week)
Vacation: 2 two-weeks
