Rotations & Call Schedule
Typical Resident Schedule
Below are outlines of schedule requirements for each program year.
Inpatient Wards – 2-3 months
- Hematology-Oncology & GI Inpatient – 1 month
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit / Intermediate Care Nursery – 1 month
- Newborn Nursery – 1 month
- Clinic/Emergency medicine split days – 1 month
- General Outpatient Pediatrics – 6 weeks
- Outpatient Developmental – 1 month
- Elective – 1 month
- Continuity Clinic – one half-day per week
- Mental Health Rotation – 2 weeks
- Community Pediatrics – 2 weeks
Night Call:
We use a night float system shared among the interns for the following rotations:
- Wards – 1 week per 4 week block
- Emergency Medicine – dispersed throughout
Vacation: 2 two-weeks
PGY-2 Schedule
- Hematology-Oncology & GI Inpatient – 1 month
- Pediatric ICU – 1 month
- Wards admitting senior – 2 weeks
- Emergency Medicine – 6 weeks
- General Outpatient Pediatrics – 1 month
- Community Pediatrics – 2 weeks
- Mental Health Rotation – 2 weeks
- Adolescent Medicine – 1 month in Year 2 or 3
- Teach rotation – 1 month
- Electives – 4-5 months
- Continuity Clinic – one half-day per week
Night call:
- NICU – 2 weeks of nights
- Ward – 2 weeks night float
- PICU – 1 week of nights
- Emergency Medicine – dispersed throughout similar to ED resident schedule
Vacation: 2 two-weeks

- NICU – 1 month

- General Outpatient Pediatrics – 2-4 weeks
- Emergency Medicine – 2 weeks

- Electives – 4-5 months
- Continuity Clinic – one half-day per week
Night call:
- Ward – 2 weeks night float
- PICU – 1 week night float
Vacation: 2 two-weeks
