Trauma Anesthesia

UVA is a Level 1 trauma center with a heavy mix of blunt traumas, farm accidents, and high-speed motor vehicle traumas. Our residents perform a wide variety of cases including trauma resuscitations as well as orthopedic trauma interventions, with massive transfusion and advanced airway management required.

Trauma cases are done on a continuum throughout the residency program, from the CA0 to the CA3 year, and not just in a single month-long rotation. Most residents log between 150-200 trauma cases with life-threatening pathology throughout the course of their residency.
