Bolivia
Dr. Carl Lynch has a longstanding commitment in a program providing surgical services to underserved populations in Bolivia. On occasion, other UVA Anesthesiology faculty participate in this program. Most of the patients have lived with their problems for many years. Surgery was not even a possibility for them because they did not have money or resources until the team of 30 volunteers arrive to provide a week of life-changing surgeries.
Dr. Lynch has made over 30 trips to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia starting in 2003 working with Misión de Esperanza (Mission of Hope). He typically makes two trips per year and has served as Director or Anesthesia and the Operating Rooms. Other faculty members and CRNAs have periodically accompanied him.
This opportunity is not open to residents at this time.
