Educational Program
The primary goal of the formal educational program is to provide a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, evidence-based curriculum to our fellows. The program includes a weekly series of lectures that utilizes the content outline as stipulated by the American Board of Anesthesiology. In 2020, our faculty helped begin a multi-institutional didactic program with Oregon Health University and the University of Wisconsin (The Ohio State University and University of Southern California have also participated.) These weekly lectures are given by many faculty speakers and guest physicians, who are leading experts in their fields. Unit leaders, NPs, PAs, and ICU care staff attend various lectures throughout the year with the fellows.
Weekly Round Table Discussions are hosted by UVA intensivists for the fellows to trouble shoot unit issues, discuss QI/research projects, career guidance, and short chalk talks.
We also have a monthly board review series (last Thursday on each month) to prepare fellows for the written examination. Fellows will also be required to complete the newly established American Board of Anesthesiology In-Training Exam for Critical Care Medicine.
