Hobbies/Outside Interests: Beyond anesthesiology, I dabble in playing drums, guitar, and, more recently, piano. My wife and I both enjoy going to the movies, eating ice cream, and traveling. My favorite travel destination (so far) is Japan, where I spent weeks studying mindfulness under Buddhist Zen monks. While I still find the meditation practices soothing after a stressful day, my true therapy comes from my two energetic Australian Shepherds, who act as my personal trainers to keep me active and healthy.

Favorite things about/to do/to eat in Charlottesville: Charlottesville has plenty of amazing restaurants (and I’m always open to recommendations), but my honest favorite place to go is Wegman’s, the enormous grocery store – I feel like a kid at Disney World every time I visit.

Why did you choose UVA? I did an anesthesiology rotation in UVA during my fourth year of medical school and met some of the most intelligent, helpful, and happy people – I knew there was something special here that I wanted to be a part of.

Anesthesiology Interests: General Anesthesiology and Regional Anesthesiology

Favorite Rotation: Foundations of Anesthesia Month

What’s the best piece of career advice you ever got?: “But until a person can say deeply and honestly, ‘I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday,’ that person cannot say, ‘I choose otherwise.’”
― Stephen R. Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
