Decades of smiles

Dr. Politis sets up an operating room for Operation Smile.

I have served on 17 missions, going back to my first one in 1994. All but one mission has been with Operation Smile. I have traveled to many locations in Asia, Africa, South and Central America to perform surgical mission work.

I have served as a member of the Operation Smile Anesthesia Council since 2000, and have championed many quality improvement and education initiatives, including resident participation on Operation Smile missions.

I will be taking one of our senior anesthesiology residents to Guwahti, India, the site of an Operation Smile Cleft Center, for two weeks in May, 2012. I chair the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia  (SPA) Committee on International Education and Service.
