Policies and procedures for monitoring of student progress are available on the BIMS Academic Progress and Achievement Committee (BAPAC) website.
This is a simple breakdown of the classes you can expect to take as you move through the MCBD Graduate Program. The UVA Graduate Record is the offical repository for academic program requirements. First Year, BIMS Core and Modular Classes:
In the fall semester, all Biomedical Sciences (BIMS) students take the Core Course in Integrative Biology (CCIB, BIMS 6000), covering fundamental knowledge. In the spring, students select from a rich set of modular courses that begin to prepare them for success in their dissertation research.
Second Year, Fall Semester
- PATH 8050 Colloquium in Human Disease Research
- PATH 8460 Seminars in Human Disease and Molecular Medicine
- PATH 8130 Topics in Molecular Basis of Human Disease I
- Approved didactic electives; Coursework as required by training grant
Second Year, Spring Semester
- PATH 8060 Rotation in Diagnostic and Interventional Medicine
- PATH 8050 Colloquium in Human Disease Research
- PATH 8460 Seminars in Human Disease and Molecular Medicine
- PATH 8140 Topics in Molecular Basis of Human Disease II
- PATH 9999 Non-topical Research
- Approved didactic electives; Coursework as required by training grant
- Take qualifying exam (by June 30th).
Third Year & Beyond
- Continued participation in PATH 8050 (Colloquium) and PATH 8460 (Seminar)
- Research Credits
- Progress to Thesis
