Samantha Karklins, MD
Wake Forest University
Hometown: Johnson City, TN
Undergraduate School: University of Tennessee (Go Vols!)
Medical School: Wake Forest University School of Medicine
Hobbies/Outside Interests: I love reading, cooking, running or taking spin & yoga classes, and watching reality TV.
Things you look forward to doing in Charlottesville: Exploring a new city! I can’t wait to try new restaurants, coffee shops, and the nearby wineries. Also, spending more time outside.
Why did you choose UVA? I chose UVA because the program seemed to share my passion for mentorship, especially for women in anesthesia. There are many female faculty members both within the department and program leadership that I can look up to as role models during my training. I feel confident that I will be a great, well-rounded anesthesiologist once I graduate from UVA, given the breadth of OR anesthesia and ICU rotations residents get to participate in.
Anesthesiology Interests: TBD but possibly critical care, cardiac, or OB anesthesiology. Either way, I love teaching & mentoring and want to work as faculty at an academic medical center after residency!
Favorite Rotation: I haven’t done any rotations at UVA yet, but my favorite rotations during med school were anesthesia (obviously) and ICU.
