First let me introduce myself and then let me explain why you should strongly consider UVA for pathology training. I have lived all over the country and even a little overseas (not a military brat but an “oil brat”) but the majority of my time has been spent in Spring, Texas (just north of Houston) and Virginia. I met my wife, Caitlin, while at Virginia Tech, and she is now a practicing Veterinarian in Charlottesville. She is currently pregnant with our first child and is due on Christmas. We also have a miniature dachshund named Pearl. We love the Charlottesville area and were able to buy out first home here. The scenery is beautiful and there are lots do whether you prefer to be outdoors or not.

The residents and faculty here at UVA excel in all areas – they are as intelligent as they are kind. It is impossible to convey through a computer screen how much this place feels like a family (I know we are all conditioned to hear that advice and ignore it but trust me). I wish I could show you all in person. The faculty are excellent at teaching and make significant efforts to explain their thought processes while going through cases at sign out. There is ample research opportunities and several avenues for involvement with medical students/medical school and QA teams. UVA Pathology prepares people to achieve at the highest level in academia and readies pathologists to ‘do it all’ in private practice. I would argue that there is no person who would find this program lacking.
