Hi everyone! My name is Janet! I am originally from Chihuahua Mexico where I spent most of my childhood before moving to Texas. I did my undergrad at the University of Texas at Tyler. My family now lives in Tennessee! I attended UVA for medical school and graduate school, DOUBLE HOO!! I joined the UVA general surgery department because I love the program culture, the residents, and faculty. During medical school, I was always very impressed with the collaborative and supportive nature of the department. As a medical student, I saw how the residents were super hard working but still took time to teach students in a kind and thoughtful manner. In addition, Charlottesville is such a beautiful place to train at.

My current clinical and scientific interests include surgical oncology, tissue engineering, and targeted drug delivery systems. Outside of the hospital, I enjoy dancing salsa and bachata at the local salsa club or checking out live music around town!!
