Fourth Year Rotations
The University of Virginia Department of Surgery offers fourth year students (Phase 3) in-depth 4-week rotations, intended for students who are contemplating a career in surgery.
Students assist in inpatient care, outpatient clinic, surgeries, and academic conferences. Students are expected to assume responsibility for patients as acting interns, under the direct supervision and house staff on their team.
Students may also be responsible for case presentations or other academic activities. These responsibilities are designed to provide a hands-on-experience in and to prepare students for a career in academic surgery.
